Matters of Self - A Guide
How Important are You? - 8 min read.
Do you see yourself as an integral part of life?
Of the greater universe?
Just somebody’s neighbor?
Maybe you view yourself through the lens of the eyes of others.
Take those lenses away and what do you see?
We are literally inundated by what we should be and should look like that you have to ask at what point in the line did we stop seeing ourselves as individuals with distinct preferences, interests and enjoyments?
At what point did we become slaves to commercialism and societal bleed norms?
All that we are though, was never meant to be weighed up by the mere perceptions of others, nor was it intended to be something to fashion after a pre-molded version of self-entitlement.
No child arrives into this world expecting mothers’ milk on a silver tray with finger biscuits to the side and a butler to sponge them over.
Everything is learned as we each go along by those who came before us and hold the greatest influence. That doesn’t make what we learn, right.
Of course, how others perceive you does matter, but only to a point.
We are creatures made for engagement and connections.
We operate better in communities where there’s reasonable and fair governance and we each feel satisfied that we are a contributing factor to the greater whole.
When we speak of perceptions in this context however, they are hardly the same as the projective work many learn to frill out and hide behind.
We seek here instead the hidden self.
The authentic.
